General Information

The XIth IOSTE Symposium will be held from 25 to 30 July 2004 in Lublin. It will be the first time that IOSTE Symposium is placed in Eastern Europe. The organizer of the Symposium is Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, which celebrates the 60th anniversary.

The Symposium opens on Monday, 26 July at 9.00 a.m. and closes on Friday, 30 July at 13.00 p.m. On Sunday, 25 July participants will register and take part in the pre-symposium activities. This programme gives you information about the academic activities, registration, meals, tours and social events.

Venue
All academic activities will take place in the Conference Centre (Centrum Konferencyjne AR), 15 Akademicka Street, which is part of the University Campus located in the centre of the town.

Registration
Symposium Office will be open in the Conference Centre from Sunday, 25 July to Friday, 30 July, 8.30-18.00. It is possible to get conference materials, pay for dinners and the symposium dinner as well as declare participation in one of the excursions during the Symposium there.

 

Label badges
Everyone associated with Symposium will be wearing a label badge:
Symposium participants – blue
Accompanying persons – green
Organizers – yellow

 

Meals
Meals are available in the canteen in the campus. Breakfast will be available for those living in the Students’ Hostels. The cost of breakfast is included in the accommodation payment.
Dinners can be bought at the Symposium Office.

Excursions
During the registration an excursion which will take place on Wednesday, 28 July should be chosen. The following excursion will be available both for participants and accompanying persons:

  1. “Janów Forests” (40 places)
  2. “Kazimierz Landscape Park” (40 places)
  3. “Route of Perishing Local Occupations” (80 places)
  4. “Polesie National Park” (40 places)
  5. “Botanical Garden of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University” (30 places)

Buses will depart from the Conference Centre.

 

There are free of charge trips organized for accompanying persons:

       Nałęczów – Kazimierz on 26 July (Monday) 11.00–17.00

       Zamość – Zwierzyniec on 27 July (Tuesday) 9.00–18.00

       Kozłówka on 29 July (Thursday) 9.00–13.00

Buses will depart from the Conference Centre.

 

Special events
25 July (Sunday)  the time 15.00–18.00 there is organized a walking tour with a guide round Lublin “Lublin – The History and the Present Times of the City”. The meeting place is the hall of the Conference Center.

 

26 July (Monday) in the evening there is organized a barbecue in the Village Museum. Therefore, you are kindly requested to take your national costume to wear them during this event.
After sessions, at 18.00 buses will take the participants to hotels from where they will be taken before 19.00. Detailed information will be on the information board.

 

On 28 July (Wednesday) in the Philharmonic, which is located near the Conference Centre, there will be a concert for the Symposium participants.

 

On 29 July (Thursday) there will be Closing Symposium Dinner organized in the Palace and its surrounding park in Wierzchowiska near Lublin. Payment of 60 Euros should be made in the Symposium Office until 27 July.
After sessions, at 18.00 buses will take the participants to hotels from where they will be taken before 19.00. Detailed information will be on the information board.

 

E-mail room
The participants can use e-mail room located on the ground floor of Chemistry Faculty building (3 minutes’ walk from Conference Centre). It will be open every day 9.00–18.00 during the Symposium.

 

Exhibitions
During the Symposium there will be publications of “Taylor & Francis Group” and Routledge publishers (part of the Taylor & Francis Group) presented as well as teaching aids sold by “Eduka – Trade Company”.

 

IOSTE Meetings
In the Conference Centre, there is one room reserved for IOSTE meetings. The first meeting of IOSTE Committee is on Sunday, 25 July 2004 20.00–21.00.
Further meetings will be planned at the time. The last meeting of IOSTE Committee is scheduled on Friday, 30 July 2004 after the closing ceremony. This room can be used to organize regional IOSTE meetings after notifying it to the Symposium Office.

 

Cash machine
There is a cash machine outside the Conference Centre.

 

Transport to the airport

There is a possibility of organizing transport to the airport in Warsaw on Friday, 30 July 2004. Please, notify the Symposium Office about this.
